Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund- HEERF

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act recently passed by Congress included the CARES Act Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund that provided funding to institutions to provide emergency financial aid grants to students whose lives have been disrupted, many of whom are facing financial challenges.

Williams Technical College participated in the Emergency Financial Aid Grants focusing on active students. This funding was intended to address the pressing financial needs of students due to the disruption of campus operations caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund committee reviewed the guidelines set forth by the Department of Education to create policies and procedures for issuing awards for eligible students.

Williams Technical College received $3,100, Student Portion of the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund II of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security CARES Act.  A total of six students completed the application requesting emergency funding.  Williams Technical College dispersed all funds received to eligible students as of April 6, 2021.

Williams Technical College received $20, 000, Student Portion of the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund II of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security CARES Act.  A total of 26 students completed the application requesting emergency funding. Williams Technical College dispersed all funds received to eligible students as of May 25, 2021.

As of June 30, 2021, no emergency funds were released to students.

Williams Technical College received $4,500, Student Portion of the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund II of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security CARES Act.  A total of 9 students completed the application requesting emergency funding. Williams Technical College dispersed all funds received to eligible students as of August 5, 2021.

As of September 30, 2021, no emergency funds were released to students.

Williams Technical College dispersed all funds received to eligible students as of November 11, 2021.

Williams Technical College dispersed all funds received to eligible students on June 27, 2022.

​​The intent of the HEERF grant was to be used for technology and technology-related needs, food, housing, course materials, healthcare, childcare, and other student-related costs. The health and safety of students come first; therefore, this grant should be used by students in accordance with their self-described priorities related to the COVID-19 emergency. Students were strongly encouraged to use these funds in ways that support further their education in this new environment of enhanced remote learning.

Surveys were processed by the committee on May 13, 2020, and students were able to receive their awards beginning on May 15, 2020.

Students received $230.55 and a personal laptop for a total award per student of $520.81. This award was based on the student's needs as indicated in their HEERF form. The HEERF survey was sent to active students via email on May 1, 2020
